Remove What Doesn't Belong

It's another Happy Healthy Habit Hump Day! I hope you're feeling good -- it's a good thing to reach for and build upon. Maybe something in today's Care will inspire you. If so, I'm happy to help!

Do you sometimes feel disconnected or like nothing really makes sense? When I feel like that I also connect it with being overwhelmed and generally distracted. Recently, I attended a Zoom class (wish I'd thought to buy stock in Zoom in 2020, lol!) and the speaker mentioned emptying the drainboard -- you know that surface next to the sink where dishes can be stacked to dry, especially if you don't have a dishwasher. I don't know about you, but for me, when it's full, the kitchen feels cluttered. I don't want to cook or do anything else creative until I've cleared it. While the area serves a purpose for a short while, it gets in the way if it's too full or stays there too long.

What about the area next to your bed? Do you have a nightstand or night table? Traditionally this is a small table or cabinet, perhaps with a drawer. I'm guessing it was created to hold a lamp, a box of tissues, a book, maybe some glasses (if needed), and perhaps an alarm clock. When I notice that mine is covered in a pile of books, notebooks, pens, 3 pairs of glasses, tissues (some used - ewww), cough drops, a hair clip, socks, and 2 lip balms, I know it's time to clear it off and clean it up. It's an indicator that I'm trying to do too much before bed. Even if I'm not, just looking at it before falling asleep cannot be contributing to a restful night.

Many places in our homes can become a collection of "stuff". For me, it can be a sign of "unfinished business" which is a reminder of how much I feel I have to do. It's also distracting and makes it difficult to focus on the kind of productivity that makes me feel better and more relaxed. Sometimes it's just random mindlessness.

Take a look around you and pick just one spot. Rearrange, remove what doesn't belong, figure out what you need to feel more connected to that area. How can it support what you want to accomplish ...? What will make your surroundings feel more like you truly belong there? There's a lot in the world that we cannot control. Exercise the power you have over your environment and open up the door to peace, abundance, creativity and fulfilling results -- as always be care-full.

Happy Healthy Hump Day,
