Whooooo Are You? Who, Who, Who, Who
"Who I was is not who I've become."
This week's Bloom will be shorter and sweeter than usual. I've been doing a lot of self-reflection. Maybe it's because I had a "big" birthday about 10 days ago. Or, it could be because I'm looking for a place to call home, a base of operations. I'm thinking of all the places I've lived. I'm immersed in memories ... what did I like about this place or not like about that one? How am I different now than I was then?
We all change from the moment we are born. If we didn't we would remain babies our whole lives. This evolution continues right up until we take our last breath and it might even continue beyond into the spirit world, who knows?
Have you ever heard someone say, "I don't like who I've become"? What a wonderful awareness. Who knows why we sometimes go off in a certain direction. Something "bad" happens and we decide to let it color everything. Perhaps we allow others to have too much influence over us. In the end, only we are responsible for how we act and feel. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, "No one can make you feel inferior [or any other way] without your consent."
I am not who I was and I am so happy and grateful for that while at the same time, everything I've experienced, learned, absorbed, processed, and digested has contributed to who I am today ... and it can only get better, if I allow it.
I invite you to have a little soul search. Contemplate ways you've changed and also how you've stayed the same over time. What's working for you and what might need a little overhaul? Can you say,
Who I was is not who I've become,
and feel happy or sad, at peace or unsettled? There's always time for you to become exactly who you want to be -- this is what I wish for you with all my heart.
I'll leave you with the question put to music, "Who Are You", by The Who.
