Take a Break, Take a Breather, Take Five
I've had quite a couple of weeks that fed right into this weekend. Therefore, in honor of practicing what I preach, I'm going to leave you with the shortest and sweetest message I can.
When the pace gets faster ...
When it's starting to feel like there's too much going on ...
When you can feel your self-care slipping ...
When you don't think you have anymore to give ...
Start taking.
Take a break and walk away from it all. Call out sick. Turn off your phone. Feel free to tell people you are ok and that you just don't want to be disturbed for the next day, two days, three days ... you decide.
Take a breather, literally, Stop and take a big, deep breath. Take another one. Do some 4-7-8 breathing:
Exhale completely through your mouth.
Inhale through your nose to the count of 4
Hold your breath for a count of 7
Exhale vigorously from your mouth for a count of 8
See if you can be fairly slow and deliberate
Take five minutes and come into the present.
Take five days and either create a "staycation" or find someplace to go where you can chillax.
I'm leaving you with one of the first jazz pieces I remember my Dad playing for me on our "hi-fi" record player!
Happy Healthy Hump Day,
