Curse or Praise -- It's All the Same

Hello, my Chickadees! You're all as dear to me as a mother hen with her peeps and I hope you're faring well. Things are beautiful in Boston and going well at the hospital where I have my current RN contract. I love being able to care for patients and have the kind of schedule that also allows me to be available to support others on whatever journey they're embarking. I've recently joined a new group to help me develop even more along those lines -- Something big is coming!

Diving in to more from the MQ this week ... do you ever find yourself looking forward to talking with someone or getting together with friends or coworkers so you can "vent"? I know I've had full conversations in my head where I've justifiably ranted and raved about some "grievance" and I can't wait to spew in front of an audience. Sigh ...If you've ever done this, have you also noticed how you feel right after? Even though I might feel a little relief in the moment, it doesn't really make me feel better. And, even though I might not notice right away, when I look back, it doesn't set me up for a lot of positive energy around me. It also doesn't put out the vibe I want to come back to me and it creates a downer for everyone in my sphere.

On the other hand, what about having some really fine news and letting it bubble over and out or hearing something delightful from another person. Isn't it fun to be excited about something awesome and sharing it? Doesn't it make you want to spread cheer to everyone around you? Doesn't it just feel good?!? It's great to see people smile and want to share their own "wins". You can sense a lightness in the air around you.

I know I've said it time and time again and I still need to hear it over and over. Where our attention goes our energy flows. We always have a choice and we can get stuck on anything. If I'm going to get caught up in something dark and challenging, I'd better realize that I can only stay there for so long before I'm creating more of what I don't like or want. It doesn't matter -- you can't talk yourself into rainbows and cupcake sprinkles via doom and gloom.

This doesn't mean creating denial around something disturbing. It means leaving it be, not supporting it, and looking for ways to focus on what we want more of and even surrounding what is unwelcome and undesired with love, as if we are creating an impenetrable barrier around it so that it can't spread. It means looking for the opposite of what we are finding displeasing or worse and nourishing that. It sometimes even means holding what we find unpleasant and transforming it. Whatever we push against will push back with even more force, but what we cradle loses its commitment to resistance.

Take a few deep breaths --this is not easy stuff. It's hard and it's challenging and it's what needs to be done to create change. It looks soft on the outside, especially if we believe that we always have to fight and use force to make a difference. It's not a sign of weakness. It's about having a steely, inner determination as well as compassion. It is not easy, but it's doable. It starts by finding peace within ourselves, by always looking for what's divine and uplifting around us. This is also work done best with someone else or a group is even better.
