Not Exactly Luck


Hello, hello, hello! How is it going? I'd love to hear from you if you have any new insights that COVID has stimulated. I decided to experiment with a vegan food plan and it's going pretty well. I'll keep you in the loop.

This week's Monday Quote (MQ) was a little preachy ...

"When you're looking to get lucky,

I suggest you look for grace and blessings instead."

It's not so much that I'm telling you what to do -- I'm offering some guidance based on where I've been at times and what I've learned that doesn't work.

The definition of luck is "success or failure brought about by chance rather than through one's own actions". In other words, there's little to no effort involved. There's an element of hoping, but not really prepared to take some action and do something about what we want. It's funny how we can wish we were "lucky" like some other individual without looking a little deeper into all the work that other person put into their success.

In the past, I used to feel unlucky. That was also a time when I was quick to blame anyone but myself for whatever was going on in my life that I didn't like. I saw others who seemed to have it all and I would said to myself, "What a lucky stiff". In my eyes, back then, I couldn't see why they deserved to be lucky when I wasn't. Boy, was I on the wrong track!

Luck really has nothing to do with how well things proceed. The key to feeling favored and fortunate is to look for grace. Over time I've realized that means getting in touch with our innate (you might even call them "God given") talents. What comes easily to each of us is different and deserves to be developed. Anything we can do with little effort, but lots of joy and passion, is our gift. It needs to be honored. Life is not about getting gold stars for what's hard. It's about taking what is relatively effortless and giving it our all. This is where we have the best chance to shine!

The second thing we can look for is blessings. These are signs that we are being supported by the Universe, by something much greater than ourselves. This means looking at our lives and being grateful for every little favor that contributes to our well being. I highly suggest you create a Gratitude Journal. Write down at least three to five things for which you're thankful at least once a day -- twice, morning and night, is even better. It also means that we need to help others through thought, word, and/or deed. What goes around comes around and the good we put out will definitely come back many times over.

The next time you think luck has something to do with a situation, take a look behind the scenes. See how much effort is actually going into that particular set of circumstances. And, if you're starting to feel unlucky, it might be time to search for the blessings and grace all around you. I know they are there if you set your mind to seeing them. This is what I wish for you.
