Feeling or Thinking?

I've never been to a live TED talk, but I love watching them on YouTube. Living in Boston most of my adult life, I was often able to attend tapings of interesting people at our local public television.  I remember the first time I saw Dr. Dwayne Dyer. For weeks after, in my head, I could hear him say, "When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change". This one statement has helped me countless times. 

 

I recently realized that I could apply Dr. Dyer's wisdom to a particular set of circumstances. The more I saw it as a "problem", the less I was able see a solution. When I decided to see it more as a "situation", ways to cope with it and handle it came to the surface. 

 

This week's Monday Quote/MQ was:

 

"You can either see something as a Problem 

or as a Situation. 

Can you feel the difference?"

 

From a young age I've been aware that I get funny feelings at times. I think I more easily followed those nudges as a child, before I started to overthink things. As an adult, I've learned that when I ignore my intuition it takes me down a path that I don't enjoy. Feeling the difference between a "problem" and a "situation" is a big factor in the solution. 

 

Too often we try to think our way out or through something. I don't know about you, but I can end up going in circles inside my brain. When I stop, take a breath or two and see where my awareness is in my body, I feel calmer and clearer. The next step is to trust that. Whenever I do, it pays off. 

 

The next time you find yourself struggling with a difficulty, try to see it as a situation or even an opportunity. If you feel like you are spinning your wheels, take it down a notch. Notice how you feel about it and then, what might make you feel better. Let your gut lead the way and relax into what might seem like an unexpected resolution. This is what I wish for you.
