SMALL TITLE

Control or Creativity

September 12, 2018

I'm all about freedom. I don't think I'm alone in this and I'm also aware that there are many ways to feel free. Driving down a beautiful, New England country road on a summer's day, in a convertible with the wind in my hair, or getting on a river cruise in Europe and being pampered as I float down ancient rivers, or sitting on an exotic beach with a few good books -- these all feel liberating to me. I'm sure you have your own version of what it feels like to be let loose.

The other side of that is feeling confined and I've noticed it also ties in closely with feeling like one has lost control. As a nurse working mostly in large, city hospitals I see patients react to this confinement and what feels like a loss of choice. As I said in Monday's Quote:

"It can be disempowering to feel like we have no control over anything."

Focusing on our limitations will only keep us trapped there. If we give in to feeling completely controlled by outside sources, we will surely get stuck there. However, there is a way out of this. There was more to my MQ:

"On the other hand, it's exhilarating to focus on what we can create."

Making the shift from looking at what feels like it has control over us to exploring what we can shape, develop, or generate will set us free. Even in a hospital setting, there are possibilities to explore. The feeling of expansion, not contraction starts within us. Once we allow ourselves to be open to them, new ideas will begin flowing in. We can go from feeling trapped to excited and this is what I wish for you.

Love and Sparkles,
