Gut Feelings

Monday's Pleasure Point encouraged all of you to listen to your intuition. It really is your inner wisdom guiding you. Sometimes I choose to ignore it -- I do not recommend this!! Trust me, been there, done that, and with icky results! However, I definitely recognize when a little (and, sometimes not so little) voice inside of me tries to get my attention. 

 

What if you aren't sure what your intuitive nudge sounds or feels like and how do you make friends with it? I have a few suggestions.

 

Something a lot of people struggle with is the difference between true intuition and plain, old fear or hesitation. This is what it boils down to: if you're getting mostly a physical reaction to something, it's probably your inner wisdom trying to get your attention. If your head is buzzing with a million thoughts, arguments, and blah, blah, blah, and especially if you're not even sure what you're feeling, it's likely agitation caused by overthinking.

 

ESP or extrasensory perception used to be talked about a lot when I was a kid. It usually referred to "knowing what someone else was thinking", but it also could mean "having a feeling" about something. It might be that sinking sensation in the pit of your stomach or fluttering in your chest. Some people feel clammy or their hands tingle or even hair, almost anywhere on our body, will "stand up". It's what I call a built-in, early warning system and it's good to pay attention to it. 

 

Sometimes, if we haven't learned to listen to these physical buzzes, we think we're sick or we need a doctor. Even though a health care provider might not have a clue what's going

on, they'll probably prescribe medication, just to cover it up, cuz' that's what they do! I'm not suggesting you toss the baby (doc) out with the bath water, especially if that's part of your paradigm, but I would recommend that you start noticing when you become aware of something in your body that clearly is trying to get your attention. Play with it -- notice what else is going on. Is someone saying something that makes you uncomfortable? Are you having an "irrational" response to a specific situation? Where are you having that funny feeling in your body? Have you felt this before? Simply notice and then, figure out what it might take to feel better.  

 

People tell me all the time that they want to live life the way I do -- one way I design my life is by listening to my gut. It always leads me in the right direction.
