Where You Focus, There You Go

This week's Monday Pleasure Point was a quote from my favorite guide Abraham (www.abraham-hicks.com). It was all about how we feel when we give something our attention. Lately, I've been watching people more than usual and noticing whether they seem happy, grumpy, dopey ... or, impersonating any other dwarf from Snow White! Mostly, I've been wondering what it takes to be unhappy or even miserable and what I've realized is that many people have limiting beliefs. 

 

I've always loved the first line of an Emily Dickinson poem, "I dwell in possibility". I am mostly an upbeat, cheerful person and there is a reason for that -- I don't like feeling down and out. I don't enjoy feeling full of gloom and doom. Sadly, it is all too easy to fall into those black holes. Discouragement and despair is all around us, especially if we pay too much attention to the media. I don't want to have someone or something else taking control over my moods! They don't deserve that kind of power. Instead, I make the effort to surround myself with people and information that lift me up. I don't need to listen to or read negative comments about the weather, the economy, or, life in general. 

 

We could believe that whatever we hear or read is all there is. However, it is wonderfully exciting to set out to find another point of view or opinion. Once we start on this journey it is amazing the avenues that open up for us. It's like always driving down the same, dull highway, full of traffic and construction and then, one day, discovering that there is an exit that takes us on a lovely, wide-open road with charming scenery and still gets us to our destination!

 We don't need to see how someone else is managing life and think that's exactly how it has to be for us. We are all unique with individual genes and DNA and amazing capabilities. It might be that we are afraid to expand our limits because we want to "fit in", but if that means joining the ranks of the wretched and depressed, I'd rather fly my freak flag. You don't have to limit what you believe to what you think you know, especially if that doesn't help you feel good. Instead, get your vibration going so that you feel better -- read something inspirational, talk to a friend who looks on the bright side, recall a happy memory and watch things shift. Be prepared to blow your mind wide open!
